Anesthesia is a set of medical procedures performed by an anesthesiologist to ensure that the patient does not feel pain, can tolerate the surgical intervention, does not remember the procedure afterward, and remains comfortable — before, during and after surgery. Maintaining the patient's health and safety throughout the surgery is also part of the anesthesiologist's responsibility. Anesthesia can be administered as general, regional or local anesthesia.
